Dear Applicant,

we would like to inform you that due to the current pandemic situation the DAAD Information Centre Budapest cannot perform OnSET-tests this autumn. Because of this, the DAAD changed the regulations regarding the language certificates for the Master scholarship.

Regularly for the scholarship application you need:

  • Proof of knowledge of language(s) of instruction in the chosen study programme (should be no older than 2 years)
  • Proof of German knowledge (should be no older than 2 years) which is also compulsory for applicants who apply for an Englis language study programme. In case you don’t speak German, you need to upload a self written testimony that you have never learnt German language and you would like to apply for an English language study programme.

However if you are unable to submit a language certificate due to the current Corona-situation, you can upload an appropriate justification with a self-assessment of your current language level according to the CEFR instead of the missing document. If you would like to assess your German language skills yourself, you can take the free placement tests of Deutsche Welle or the Goethe-Institut. The British Council offers a free placement test for English. You can find further tips for self-assessment of your language skills here, see section A point 8.

Please note, however, that you will need proof of language proficiency to apply for university admission and thus to start the scholarship (e.g. DSH or TestDaF if the language of instruction is German, e.g. TOEFL or IELTS if the language of instruction is English). If you acquire a language certificate after the application deadline, please submit it to us.

We wish you a succesful application!
